I was called off from work for part of the day today, so i was able to fit in Mikayla to see her GI doc. Basically, he is the one who started this whole thing. Mikayla had been spending the whole weekend at her dad's so i just picked her up on our way to the appt. She had a little mishap and it was evident i needed to change her whole wafer and bag when i got home. Anyway, the doctor said he would request the op report and labs which of course weren't shared with him from MUSC, and he said we should concentrate on trying to get her to gain weight. She is 59 pounds now. She's been less, but he said i should add fats to her food. Like olive oil and butter. When she was a wee baby, her pediatrician told me to do the same thing because she was a slow gainer. It didn't make much difference. But i'll give it a whirl again. We stopped by McDonald's on the way home and she ate a cheeseburger and some fries. He again said there is no reason for her to have dairy, and i told him i understood but find it hard to remove it from her diet. It doesn't seem to bother her, and i grew up placing milk in very high regard nutritionally. Its in the back of my mind. Otherwise, we go back to see him in a month.
When we got home, i had only thirty minutes before i had to be at work, so i quickly changed her wafer and bag.It was the first time for us to change it by ourselves. It went much smoother than i expected and i even added some Adapt lubricant in the bag, because it came free with the Secure Start from Hollister. I tried to get her to put a tic tac in her bag because i heard that helps with odor, but she didn't like that idea. Maybe tomorrow. When i got back from work tonite it seems the Adapt lubricant makes the bag easier to empty and i would consider ordering some more i think depending on how much it costs. We are supposed to be getting a box of supplies from our DME anyday now.
Thats it for today. Not bad for a Monday.
