j pouch post op day # 3

up and out of bed
Mikayla had a better day today. She was able to get the foley catheter out, NG tube out, and was actually able to walk around in the hall today.

We painted some more ceramic animals and a therapy dog named Scamp came by. She has been started on sips of clear liquids, but has not wanted much. The case manager is setting up how I'm going to get the ostomy supplies. The ostomy nurse was here while Mikayla's dad was here so she did some teaching with him. It is becoming more and more clear now to me. Mikayla is now passing greenish stool in her bag, and the doc said that was bacteria and mucus. Dr. Cina came by and said everything is coming along well. Mikayla has already got some breakdown of skin on her sacrum from those days she did not move much in the bed. She is doing better about turning, and the nurse was supposed to bring some barrier cream, but that was six hours ago.  It is almost the end of post op day three and I'm tired. I went home to spend the nite but decided to come back, because she voiced some concern about how to get the nurse to help her to the bathroom by using the call bell. She doesn't need anymore stress....i can easily help her with that.

My friend Diana came by, but she doesn't like pictures. She brought Mikayla a bunch of balloons and a dog in addition to other gifts she gave her on the post op day 1. She has been such a good friend thru this. And MIkayla loves her. My dad also was able to come and visit Mikayla. He was able to walk with us to the atrium and get some movies.

  1. I'm glad to see Mikayla's slowly starting to feel better! What a tough thing for such a young one (and her family!) to go through! It's so good to know she has so much love and support from everyone around her during this tough time.

Good luck, Mikayla! I'll be thinking of you and hoping you heal quickly and well! Hang in there, kiddo! It can only get better from here!
